2010 Scorched Sole Ultra Runners Comments

Tammy, Dan, and Shirlee

Thank you all for putting on a wonderful race. The run couldn't have gone any smoother. The marking of the course was great! I think I only got slightly off track of the course once or twice and that was only for a minute or two which I think is just fantastic for a 50 mile(ish) run. All the volunteers working the aid stations and the finish line were so friendly as well. Look forward to next years race.

Thank you

To Tammy, Dan , Shirlee;

I came from Vancouver to run your race Yesterday.  I would just like to say thank you for putting on a great event.  The course was challenging yes,  your voile crew were incredible at the Aid stations and at the finish line.  I also found the course marking to be exceptional compared to other races I have been in.  The "confidence flagging" was a huge help in making sure I didn't stray off course to far...which I tend to do :)lol

Thank you again for an exceptional day in Kelowna.

Ward Beemer

thanks Shirlee and Dan for an AWESOME race!!!!  We put the news of this race out to our local ultra running club and already have people commenting on what an awesome race it must have been. You all were so great and all Cynthia and I could say all the way home to Washington was what nice nice nice people you Canadians were to us...we just loved the race and everyone we met....it is a race I will always remember!!!

thanks again.

Thanks for the great work on the trails and organizing another great day!!
We all had fun and my buddy Adam did his first trail run and will be back for more.
I paced him through 3.5 hrs of wet, fun trails.

Thanks again,

Brad Zawalik

Dan, Shirlee, and Tammy:

Thank you for hosting a brilliant race. It was my first Scorched Sole and I will be back. The ascent-descent route was unique and incredibly fun, and showed off the beautiful scenery of the Okanagan. Your organisation was impeccable, yet low-key, and the trail marking was perfect. The ceramic medal will be a happy memento of this great race.

Many thanks,

I didn’t get a chance to thank you all before I had to leave. I just wanted to let you know that once again you did a fabulous job with the Scorched Sole. I know how hard it is to put an Ultra event on but to put on a 50M with a different course every year is way out of my realm. I had the opportunity to introduce a few (hesitant and scared) newbies to trail and Ultra running and they raved about how great this event, the course and the overall atmosphere was. They’ll definitely be back next year… so will their running buddies…. and I’ll probably be making an appearance again too… I’m finding it difficult not to make it a part of my season’s schedule.

Kudos and see you at the fall events…

Cheers, Chris

Thanks for a wonderful experience.  I have run many ultras, but nothing as technical or as demanding as the Scorched Soul.  It was a great confidence booster for me.  It was very helpful that the trail was so well marked.  I only had to look for some red tape if I had any doubt and I felt reassured that I was on the right trail.  The volunteers were incredible, friendly, encouraging and helpful.   I ran the Scorched 2 years ago, loved that course but found this year's course outstanding.  The views were incredible and being on the snow was more enjoyable than I thought.  A little scary at first, but not bad at all.  I will be back and will bring more friends.
Please pass on my thanks to all the volunteers.

Hi Dan
Thanks to you and Shirlee and Tammy for an awesome race on Saturday.  Despite a tougher course than expected it really is a beautiful course and I'm glad we got to do the route over little white.

Hope the post-race clear up goes well!
All the best

I would like to send out a very heart felt thank you to all the fine volunteers involved with putting on the Scorched Sole race this year. This was my first ever race and I was not sure what to expect so the level of enthusiasm and support I received while out viewing mother nature at her finest was terrific. The race was all I had hoped it would be and I will certainly be back. Being a newbie I know I had a lot to learn and I was not disappointed as I found the course very challenging and inspiring at the same time. Maybe one of the most important lessons learned was that stupidity IS an alternate energy source for me !

Look out next year!
Thank you all very much
cheers,

Hey Dan,
I had a blast at the Scorched Sole. It was a really well organized race and it was such a beautiful course.
Again, thanks to you and all the volunteers for making the Scorched Sole such a smashing success.

Shirlee (and Dan and Tammy),

I must thank you all for an excellent race experience. Although once the temperature rose I struggled with stomach issues and slowed considerably this race will go down as one of my favourites. The course was stunning and very challenging and I loved the high country and single track. I also found the course marking was very good and I realize that on the snow this would have been very difficult. And your volunteers were fantastic. Also, I just want to thank Shirlee personally for helping me out at the finish (the lie down and ice on the neck was helpful and made it to the hotel without having to stop for my stomach).

Thanks once again for all your work in making this event happen.

Just wanted to send out a BIG Thank you to you and everyone of the Volunteers who made the Scorched sole possible. I had an awesome time and am in awe of the awesome job that was done right down to the friendly happy people at the aid stations!

Hi Dan, Tammy and Shirlee,

Great work, very nice race...flagging and those little white signs superior...would highly recommend to one and all as a MUST DO.
Wondered what I missed all this time?
 Now I know.
Also thanks to Andy D for the roping on Little White Mtn. descent.
Next year I may do the 50km only ....so as to not have you guys up for a second sunrise!!

Happy Trails,

Howdy Dan ... just sending off a word of thanks for all the work that you and the other volunteers did to make this past weekend's Scorched Sole event such a tremendous success. I know what a huge job it is to host an event like that, and while I didn't run it this year I still wanted you to know that your efforts are enormously appreciated by all.

       Thanks again for all you do ... Yours in running and in staying at least one full stride ahead of the bears;

            Tom C.

Hi Dan and Shirlee, the race on Saturday was great, your volunteers need medals for doing an outstanding job at the aid stations. I've ran a few ultras over the past few years and your 50 has been the most fun, challenging and rewarding one so far. Thank you for the great day!!

Veronica McIlvenna

The whole event was a lot of fun.  I just became tired in the sun I don't know how you guys did it.  It's certainly one of my favourite races now, I'll graduate to the 50 next year.

Hello Dan and Shirlee

The Race was Great and very well Organized from this runners point of view, I had a fun time.
The trails were marked well (only one small blip on my part) thanks to Wendy and Gail we got back on trail in a very short time. The Volunteers you had were Great and very helpful and cheerful through out the day they make a great event The two gentlemen that carried the coolers up the Creek (very slippery bed) should be given finishers medals. It was a job well done , the water bottles up on the peak of little white was a nice touch. Thank you very much for a well organized event.

Have a great summer to all organizers and volunteers in the Scorch Soul Ultra

Good morning Mr. Crockett.  I am back in the flatlands and wanted to take a moment to let you and your people know how fantastic I thought the race was.  The course for this year had everything I have been looking for in an ultra over the years.  Everyone says they have a “tough” race and they turn out to be just steep climbs, lots of trail rocks, and not much more.  Your race had it all (climbs, rocks, streams, snow, descents, boulder field) and was as friendly as one of our local races might be.

Please thank everyone involved for me and say hello to Dirk especially.  He is the type of person/character that makes a race stand out for me.  As friendly and helpful as if we had been running mates for years.

 Thank you all!

Hi Shirlee, Tammy and Dan!

I keep telling myself that the best things in life are never easy, and once the shock of completing that unbelievably difficult 50-mile route passed, I realized what a great experience I'd had at Scorched Sole on Saturday. The volunteers were great and their commitment was best expressed by the efforts of the two guys we passed on Telegraph Trail lugging the cooler and stove 6k uphill to Aid Station 4.
The 2010 edition of the course would be tough enough at the best of times, but the blanket of snow on the mountain added a whole different element of difficulty to my first 50-miler. Best of all, it'll give the survivors of Scorched Sole 2010 that much more to brag about at future events!

Thank you again for putting on such a wonderful event and I'll see you again next year!

Hi Dan

Thanks for such a great race, it was my first 25K trail race and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm inspired to complete a 50k next year!!
Thanks again for putting on such a great venue!
